Strengthening Resilience to Violence and Extremism (STRIVE) Project

Through the partnership with The Royal United Services Institute for Defense and Security Studies (RUSI), CIPK Mombasa chapter has been implementing STRIVE Project in Mombasa and Kwale Counties, aiming at Promoting Alternative Voices in Coastal Region

The two years program seeks to:

  1. To enhance the capacity of imams on importance of early prevention of extremism.
  2. To enhance the capacity of management committees of mosques on prevention with a focus on early warning to reduce radical voices including selection criteria and process of engagement within the mosques they govern.
  3. To develop a guide to be used to enhance the capacity of existing imams on modalities that encourage better and more responsive engagement with youth.

 

Among the interventions includes:

  1. Supporting a peace research to determine capacity gaps of imams which will inform the development of a curriculum.
  2. Developing a guide to be used to enhance the capacity of the imams and selected mosque management committee members.
  3. Delivering capacity building workshop to enhance the capacity of imams and Mosque management committees on importance of early prevention of extremism with a focus on early warning to reduce radical voices including selection criteria and process of engagement within the mosques they govern.

Undertake monitoring of sermons; thereafter assess any change made and a feedback informing the participants of the results of the monitoring and evaluation exercise.
